About This Program

Provides pre-disaster mitigation funding to states, territories, and tribes for projects that reduce community vulnerability to natural disasters including floods, wildfires, and extreme weather events.

Key Requirements & Eligibility

• 1Applicant must be a state, territory, tribal government, or local government
• 2Project must reduce risk from natural hazards identified in a FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan
• 3Eligible: flood control, wildfire mitigation, seismic retrofits, extreme heat preparedness
• 4Federal share: up to 75% of eligible project costs; 25% non-federal cost-share required
• 5Subapplicants apply through state/territorial hazard mitigation officers
• 6Priority given to projects in disadvantaged communities and with nature-based solutions
